Shoe of the Month: Giannico

February 12th 2016 by

I don’t know about you but I am definitely not loyal to only one shoe brand and there’s nothing better than finding out about a young, Italian, CRAZY shoe designer. So here I am, presenting you Nicolò Beretta and his amazing GIANNICO shoe line. I had the pleasure to meet Nicolò and his team when I went to visit his show-room in Via Montenapoleone 2. Soon before the fashion week begun, Nicolò showed me his latest collection and gave me a sneak peek for his future plans in the upcoming months. Here’s what Nicolò has been up to and what is coming up next for Giannico…

Displaying IMG_1223.JPGDisplaying IMG_1223.JPGNicolò lived in Milan until the age of fourteen after which he moved to Sydney. He stressed how moving to Australia has given him an important input for his creative evolution: he got in touch with the culture with strong influences coming from the Anglo-Saxon lifestyle, which are still reflected in his shoe designs. He considered his experience in Sydney to have opened him to “a more modern ideal of beauty”, very different from the traditional Italian perception. However, he eventually went back to his Milanese roots, bringing a fresh and revolutionary style to his Italian touch, which has demonstrated to be very successful.

Nicolò always knew what he wanted to do when he grew up. Yet, fashion gurus such as Manolo Blahnik and Franca Sozzani are one of the main reason why he decided to work on his passion. In fact, they both inspired and suggested that he cultivate his natural talent and embark in a new adventure in the fashion business. In 2013, at the age of 18, Nicolò was nominated one of the 140 emerging designers by Vogue Italia. He was also selected to participate at the Vogue Talents corner.com event during the Milan fashion week in 2014. This year represents a great turn for Nicolò’s business as he had the possibility to meet and to show his great work to some of the fashion’s most important figures such as Donatella Versace, Giuseppe Zanotti, Anna dello Russo and Anna Wintour. Most recently, in 2015, he won Who’s Next-a contest sponsored by Vogue Italia and received a price from the Director of Vogue Italia, Franca Sozzani who commented “Giannico won the award for the exuberance and sense of color, always with a touch of irony”

Nicolò is only 20 but has already achieved so much in his career. His shoes are sold in more than 90 stores around the world and the number is increasing steadily. He has already presented four collections and keeps working on new inspiration and models for his ballerinas, heels and boots. When I went to his show-room in Via Montenapoleone 2, I had the pleasure to see the latest shoe line Eternal Summer Collection S/S 2016. Inspired by both the American Pop-art and the 50s with an additional Marie Antoinette color palette. His shoes remind me so much of the Jackie O’s style and the years in LA and Miami of high-waist swimsuits and swim caps decorated with flowers, yet are so modern and stylish.

I have to admit I am already late as it only took a couple of years for this talented designer to see his shoes worn by well known fashionistas in Italy and abroad, top models like Kate Moss, as well as celebrities like Lady Gaga. So… HURRY UP and get your pair of heels as soon as possible! Stay tuned…
